Cass Elliot Death Rumors Debunked by Daughter

Daughter Refutes Ham Sandwich Choking Legend

Owen Elliot-Kugell Pens Memoir to Unravel Truth

Cass Elliot, the beloved vocalist from folk vocal group Mamas and the Papas, did not die from choking on a ham sandwich, according to her daughter, Owen Elliot-Kugell. Ahead of the 50th anniversary of Elliot's tragic death, her memoir, "My Mama Cass," aims to dispel the persistent urban legend and offer a more accurate portrayal of her mother's life.

The rumor, which has circulated for years, claims that Elliot choked on a ham sandwich while eating alone in her London apartment. However, Sue, Elliot's friend and biographer, vehemently denies this account. "It's simply not true," she asserts.

Elliots' daughter, Owen Elliot-Kugell, explains that the origins of the legend are unclear. In her memoir, she explores the different theories and attempts to debunk the myth. She emphasizes that her mother's passing was due to complications from a heart attack.

Through her book, Elliot-Kugell hopes to not only correct the inaccuracies surrounding her mother's death but also provide a deeper understanding of Cass Elliot's life and legacy as an influential singer and entertainer.
