Jamaal Charles, the former running back who was a four-time Pro Bowler and led the NFL in rushing yards in 2013, has retired from the NFL. Charles, who played for the Kansas City Chiefs, Denver Broncos, and Jacksonville Jaguars during his 11-year career, announced his retirement on Saturday by signing a one-day contract with the Chiefs.

Charles, who was born in Port Arthur, Texas, and played college football at the University of Texas, was drafted by the Chiefs in the third round of the 2008 NFL Draft. He quickly became a star in Kansas City, rushing for over 1,000 yards in each of his first three seasons. In 2013, he led the NFL in rushing yards with 1,287 yards and was named to the Pro Bowl. He also made the Pro Bowl in 2010, 2012, and 2014.

Charles' career was hampered by injuries in recent years, but he remained a productive player. He rushed for over 1,000 yards in 2015 and 2016, and he was a key part of the Chiefs' offense during their run to the AFC Championship Game in 2018. He finished his career with 7,532 rushing yards and 55 rushing touchdowns.

Charles' retirement marks the end of an era for the Chiefs. He was a fan favorite in Kansas City, and he was one of the most popular players in the NFL. He will be remembered as one of the best running backs of his generation.
